Tipoff: Tonight at 7, Spokane Arena

Records: Washington State 6-1 overall, 0-0 Pac-10 Conference; Texas-Pan American 3-6 overall, NCAA Division I independent.

Players: Aaron Urbanus, a 6-foot guard, leads Texas Pan-Am at 15 points a game, shooting an notable 52 percent from 3-point range. Perry Petty, another 6-foot guard, isn’t far behind at 14.3 points a game to go along with a team-leading three assists. Ubranus, a walk-on who’s emerged as his club’s star, is featured here in a Texas newspaper.

Game themes: The Cougars make the 90-minute jaunt north to play in front of their Spokane-area fans at the Arena, which has become an annual occurrence. Texas-Pan Am, an NCAA Division I independent, has just three wins on the season – two against sub-level competition. The Broncos are ranked No. 316 in rebounding, which has proved costly in the early going.

Pac-12 opener in Spokane Arena: The Cougars announced Thursday that they will play their first Pac-12 games next season at the Spokane Arena against the Oregon schools. WSU will play the Ducks on Dec. 29, 2011, and the Beavers two days later. “It is vital to the growth of Cougar athletics that we engage in the Spokane community and taking a conference basketball weekend to Spokane gives more fans the opportunity to see their team in person,” WSU athletic director Bill Moos said . “With students away from Pullman during the holiday break, it’s a great time to highlight Cougar basketball at one of the premier venues in the Pacific Northwest.”
