Late comeback fizzles for Cougars
LOS ANGELES – For Washington State, it was the antipode of its conference opener two days prior.
The Cougars didn’t come away at the seams down the stretch like it did at UCLA. This time, their woes surfaced early and were almost negated in a late burst.
WSU nearly erased a 13-point deficit in the final minutes but Southern California fended off the late rally to secure a 60-56 victory over WSU on Friday the the Galen Center.
USC, which fell in overtime to league-favorite Washington two days before, wasn’t interested in a consecutive letdown. Late miscues didn’t come back to haunt them in the end.
One particular mishap hindered the Cougars’ valiant comeback, though.
