Effective play from Australian Brock Motum has has helped Cougars crack NIT Final Four

PULLMAN — Brock Motum’s plans for rubbernecking the Big Apple preceded Washington State’s recent berth in the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament.

Even if the Cougars weren’t able to dispatch Northwestern in overtime on Wednesday night, the 6-foot-10 sophomore was going to visit the mecca of American metropolises regardless.

“I was planning on going there this spring with some friends from other schools,” Motum said. “But now it’s a free trip.”

He can thank himself for keeping his pocketbook as thick as his Australian accent.

Motum’s recent emergence has helped WSU (22-12) reach Madison Square Garden, where it will face Wichita State (27-8) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PDT.
